New Generation
Two-part curated exhibition · Art Salon de H, Seoul · 2025

[NEW GENERATION part2] is an exhibition that introduces the modern languages of the two artists, Jeong Hyun-seo and Bastien Pery. Both artists open a dialogue on contemporary issues and themes, exploring identity, culture, and most importantly, personal narratives from a modern perspective. They constantly explore and create to find their own artistic paths. Their approach to their work is deeply connected to a special attachment to memory, which they make the central theme of their practice. Through their works, they discover ways to express emotions related to life's moments. Their work feels like a diary, allowing us to hear deep, introspective stories, capturing vivid testimonies of their lives.

Because forgetfulness survives better than memory, the artist archives his five senses and preserves them on canvas.
Jeong Hyeon Seo is a painter, but also a storyteller. He carries within him, and in his artistic practice, the desire to put words to every moment of life, whether trivial or ordinary.
He gives particular sensitivity to what surrounds him, to the details that make a day special.
The artist gathers his five senses and frees his mind from memories to prevent forgetfulness, sharing his concerns and questions about the world.

Painting, as the writing of a personal story, also allows Hyeon Seo to put words on his canvases. He tells us stories, his thoughts, and the canvas becomes a notebook that he shares openly and without shame.

The artist, who recently graduated from Inha University, explores the beauty of colors one by one and exclusively paints in monochrome, a technique popularized since the 1950s by Yves Klein. However, the monochrome in Hyeon Seo’s painting is far from an absence of representation. While blue is a color appreciated in painting throughout the history of art, the artist takes on a more surprising monochrome: white. This time, it is a tribute to the figures in art history who motivate and inspire the artist.

Bastien Pery, born in 1993 in Biarritz, has a peticular method for his painting process that invites us in a world of shadow and light. He creates a dialogue between digital and painting by using photoshop for every works. After choosing his models in his own pictures, he plays with the light desaturates and overexposure the subjects, in the composition and recomposition of the pictorial element. You can see his work has "nature-morte" or still life, as a will to express vivid memory, as a tributes of every fragment of life.

The choice of black and white in the artist’s method creates a dramatic effect on the subjects and provides a unique visual experience. This technique pays tribute to traditional and nostalgic black-and-white vintage photography, popular until the end of the 19th century. Bastien Pery also has a particular attachment to European aesthetics, and through his painting, he takes us in time to imagine the French salons.
